The Palm Beach Archaeological Society in cooperation with the Florida Public Archaeology Network
Invites You to Attend a Lecture on” IRISH ARCHAEOLOGY AND CULTURAL HERITAGE TOURISM”

Presented by renowned Irish archaeologist and geologist Stephen Mandal, PhD
Dr. Mandal will be presenting a new model for heritage site preservation that provides a vehicle for innovative and sustainable tourism and education. The initiative, called CHAT (Cultural Heritage Amenity Town), aims to use Ireland’s greatest assets, its people and its heritage, to engage local communities with this history, ensuring its preservation for the community and visitors alike. The CHAT scheme is a community-based grass roots movement that uses heritage as a driver to bring communities together to improve their towns and attract visitors. He will focus on the pilot scheme at the Blackfriary in Trim, County Meath. Its rich archaeological landscape boasts over 8,000 years of continuous human habitation. His lecture will also focus on the potential to transfer such a model to the USA, by similarly engaging local communities in their cultural heritage.
