Aerojet Rocketdyne seeks a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering design team in our West Palm Beach, FL location. This position supports Aerojet RocketdyneA?s growing Mechanical Engineering organization and reports to the Pump Fed Engines Design Manager or designated lead. This position performs a variety of mechanical engineering tasks on fast:paced liquid rocket engine development programs.Perform mechanical design engineering assignments requiring application of advanced principles, theories and concepts to develop propulsion hardware for launch vehicle and missile propulsion programs. 70 : Primary responsibilities are for the design of top level liquid rocket engine 3D layouts, assemblies and related system components from conceptual design through production phases. Individual must be able to perform engine system level/component design tasks for liquid rocket engines with minimal supervision. Primary duties include working within an integrated product team (IPT) environment to design/revise engine assemblies and system components utilizing 3D CAD software, coordinating analysis support and releasing drawings/models on time. 10 : Guides the procurement of development hardware and the establishment of manufacturing processes. Interfaces with suppliers and assures that design requirements and intent are met. 10 : Assists in the identification and support of risk reduction and environmental test requirements. This may include manufacturing pathfinders, subscale testing, component and system level qualification tests. Develops test plans and technical reviews. 10 : Supports informal (table:top) reviews of engineering designs, provides design content sections for technical presentations (CoDR, PDR, CDR) and presents information to internal and external customers.Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, or related engineering/scientific discipline and at least five years of directly related experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship). Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information. Having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement. Additional Requirements/Preferred Qualifications:A demonstrated understanding of manufacturing processes, materials and engineering analysis is required.Must be a self:starter. Hands:on experience with mechanical systems expected (aerospace, automotive, aircraft or machinery).Should have experience with CAD software design tools (Creo v2.0/NX 8.5). Experience with liquid rocket engines a plus.Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is also needed.An advanced degree or coursework toward an advanced degree is a plus.Experience in the design and development of mechanical systems and working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 is desired.Experience with aerospace turbomachinery, valves, injectors, chambers, or nozzles is beneficial.General component and system level knowledge of rocket propulsion hardware is desirable.
