Description of duties:
This is a full:time and field oriented Fish/Wildlife Technician position on Dinner Island Ranch Wildlife Management Area. Incumbent is responsible for the operation, upkeep and maintenance of various equipment including trucks, ATVs, swamp buggies, tractors, front end loaders, trailers, mowers, chainsaws, weed:eaters, etc. Must be able to trouble:shoot equipment failure issues and follow manufacturers recommendations for periodic preventative maintenance, fabricate and repair equipment including minor motor repairs and small engine repair, utilize MIG welders, cutting torches, and other various hand/air tools. Operate a hunter check station as assigned collecting hunter/harvest information and biological samples such as deer jawbones and brain tissue. Assist biologists with various land management activities including planting dove fields, prescribed burning, mowing, installing firebreaks, and chemical and mechanical control of invasive and exotic plants. Responsible for repairing barbed wire fences and gates, maintaining roads, posting signs, and performing custodial functions and building maintenance. Interact professionally with the public and partners providing accurate information concerning wildlife, area conditions, rules and regulations. Prepare and submit accurate weekly, bi:weekly, and monthly reports for timesheets, purchasing, equipment use, and accomplishments. Must be familiar with basic use of personal computers (including Microsoft Office and Excel). Assist on other wildlife management areas as needed. Must be able to work independently once trained, lift at least 50 pounds, walk or stand for extended time periods in inclement weather, and work weekends, early mornings and evenings as assigned. Applicants with a valid Class A CDL and S:130/S:190 wildland fire certifications preferred.
Incumbent should be comfortable working independently in the field in inclement weather with biting insects, have experience operating ATVs/UTVs and handheld GPS devices, and be able to manage several assignments simultaneously. Incumbent is expected to have a strong work and team ethic in support of goals and objectives in managing the area, including good communication skills with team members, agency staff, and diverse public users. Incumbent shall have good organizational skills and be able to work in a fast:paced or changing environment.

Additional requirements: Incumbent must have a valid drivers license and maintain a personal cellular phone. Must possess or obtain valid Class A Florida Commercial drivers license within first 120 days of employment. Position is subject to random drug screening.
