Summary: The Estimator is responsible for determining how much a project would cost, how long the project would take to complete and how much revenue the project should generate when submitting Company proposals for construction projects. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Determine factors such as labor costs, material costs, equipment costs, manufacturing locations, facility costs and required permits and licensing when determining bid proposals for road construction projects. Duties include ordering plans and specifications, performing job assessment, pricing each piece of work, negotiating prices with potential subcontractors and attending pre-bid meetings. Responsibilities include coordinating with various internal departments in order to obtain the needed information to formulate a bid, along with outside sources such as bonding and insurance agents. Lead in analyzing job plans, visit job sites, interview job supervisors. Responsible for maintaining relationships with suppliers and equipment vendors to track current pricing and to negotiate better rates for long-term or large-scale projects. Responsible for creating cost-monitoring processes that allow the Company to track profit or loss for each project. Upon award of project, responsible to provide budget, subcontractor and supplier information to various departments and participate in hand-off meeting to Operations. Remain involved in a project to help maintain the profit margin and to handle any changes in the original estimates. Maintain contact with Project Managers and Superintendents, providing them with tools and information necessary to complete a project as bid. Perform projects and other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree preferred; degree in Mathematics, Architecture or Engineering preferred. 5+ years of related experience; HCSS experience required. An understanding of the road construction industry and the ability to work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Extensive knowledge of and experience in the civil construction field, equipment and job management. Proven track record in defining job bid parameters, collecting data, establishing facts and drawing valid conclusions. Strong analytical skills; very detail oriented and organized. Good verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in MS Office. Familiarity with Oracle Enterprise One is a plus. Valid driver's license with a driving record that meets Company standards. Physical dexterity may involve stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions. The employee must be able to maintain constant alertness to multiple concurrent activities occurring, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment and the movement of mobile equipment.
