Responsible for independently operating the diet office with minimal supervision. Ensures patient safety by maintaining accurate patient information including but not limited to diet order, supplement, enteral feeding, allergies, etc. Prepares dietary information for use by production and trayline personnel in preparation of food for patients. Accurately completes meal tickets based on diet prescription. Calculates diabetic or renal exchanges and patterns based on standards and policies. Educates patient to ensure menu selections are nutritionally adequate and consistent with diet order. Performs call back to patients who do not order trays within specified time period for each meal. Knowledge of sound nutritional practices, safe food handling techniques, special diets, disease states and the nutritional composition of common foods. General knowledge of therapeutic diets, oral supplements and enteral feeding formulas in relationship to medical disorders. Participates in tray assembly activities. Communicates with nursing, clinical nutrition team, production staff and supervisors of any patient diet related issues. Compiles monthly PI data. Follow federal, state and local guidelines and regulations. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.Required: High School Graduate or GED Equivalent. Must be able to read, write and speak English. Certification as Diet Clerk of Diet Technician or AA degree in nutrition or dietetics preferred.
